STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These are important for enabling children to understand and process the world around them. STEM learning can give children the tools to succeed in school and in the workplace as adults.

Parents are key in encouraging children’s interest in STEM. There are plenty of STEM toys and games, books, and learning resources out there. Here are some other ways to help you get started at home!

Get involved.

Participate in your child’s STEM learning! Ask them questions about what they’re learning and be interested in their projects. You could also offer an extra pair of hands or be a sounding board for ideas!

Involve them.

Get them to help cook a meal, or have them help out in a household project. These tasks reinforce real-world application of STEM skills, and give you an opportunity to get hands-on and collaborate with your children. Children will find even more value in STEM when they see it being used by people around them every day!

Look out for opportunities.

STEM learning can happen everywhere! Take a trip to the science centre, visit the playground, go to a museum, or participate in invention conventions worldwide. A fun and simple activity that our students really enjoy — that you can do in your own home — is building a catapult using recycled materials. Try this out as a weekend project with your child!

STEM skills are essential for children in today’s rapidly changing world. With the support of parents, kids can excel in these subjects! Not sure where to get started? Reach out to us to find out more.
